About names

Hello,

Aquiles (or Achille) is the main robot and Gigi use many Achille functions. It will be nice for children to call him Aquiles, particularly if you want to use it in the future. In the same way, should we use Jiji instead of Gigi ? Gigi comes from first syllable of "Girafe".

Problem with category

Hello Racso,

I have a problem with names. In this wiki, all categories use plural : Category:planets, etc. In french, or english, we just use to had s to words (it's ok in many cases). What are rules in spanish ? For the moment, I guess an algorithm :

• I can try adding s in many situations
• When word ends by en, I'm adding es. But, when should I change a -> á (like imágenes) ?

Did I forget other situations ?

Oh, yes, I see... It's complicated... It's not for me (I'm using automatic translation) but for Gigi. Gigi tries to find images by two ways inside Vikidia (for commons, it's different).

• Gigi search category like that : "Category:Name of article", example, Categoría:Mamífero. But, categories are plural ! Gigi must search : Categoría:Mamíferos
• If it fails, Gigi uses mediawiki searching system, expression "Mamífero" in this case.

I think there is another solution. I can use article category and stick "Imagen:" before. A fish article will be in category fishes, and images in Category:image:fishes.

Changing names

You're right, it will be better to use Spanish Filenames. We can do this with Aquiles (adult version), but Gigi is designed for children, and I would less clics as possible. But I will add it (optional input box). Important : to avoid risk of duplicate files, Aquiles will create redirect realname blank pages. Thomas 05:28 22 may 2008 (UTC)

Oups, I would say Gigi will create a file with english name who contains : #REDIRECT [[spanish name]] to avoid files being uploaded several times. Example : I'm downloading a file called "big smile.jpg" and name it : "sonrisa.jpg". You download the same but rename it as "grande sonrisa.jpg". With redirection, Gigi knows that and warn you. Good question. But... why not ? There is many Giraffe photos. The most important thing is to define parent categories, to find them easier, I think. Animals/Mammals/Bovidae ? It's a choice. In France, we have an educational mission about animals (and plants) : learning classification (without precise instruction, kind of classification is not wrote). For me, it's a good way to understand how classic classification works. My intervention here is temporary, I'm not able to decide anything ! In fr.vikidia, it's depend also to the numbers of pictures. We have a bird category in general, not for each species. Mammals are more precise. One thing is clear : categories would changes by the time, it's not a rigid gantlet ! (We use Aquiles robot to change it, because it could be hard work to change some old and big one). Hola Racso!! Mi idea es pedirte (si puedes), un video de unos minutos donde nos comentes qué es Vikidia y cómo pueden usarla, quiénes, para qué, cómo surgió, etc. El doble objetivo es publicitar Vikidia y a la vez mostrar a los asistentes al simposio qué es una Wiki y para qué se puede usar (después de mostrar el video daríamos un taller sobre "cómo usar una wiki", sintaxis, etc.). Server problem

Since few days, I have a problem with Gigi and utf-8 encoding. Unfortunately, I can do nothing for the moment, the problem comes from server (apache). I sent a mail today, and I hope it will be fixed soon. For the moment, it should be better to stop using Gigi (pb with descriptions, filenames etc.). Sorry about this ! Thomas 10:02 8 jun 2008 (UTC)

Estuve viendo y la idea de una enciclopedia para chicos me gusta. Sin embargo quería consultarte, ¿hace cuanto que existe Vikidia en español? ¿Ha entrado algún niño? Jaja... porque todas las ediciones que veo fueron realizadas por wikipedistas que de niños no tienen nada, jaja...
